Here’s what’s new this week…
Let me send you patients!
Each month thousands of people visit my website or message me asking, “Where can I find a dentist who thinks like this?” If you practice dentistry using a root-cause, functional approach, we need you. Almost 2,000 patients worldwide are on a waiting list to be notified when a functional dentist joins near them.

Add your practice to the Functional Dentist Directory before the end of the month and receive 15% off an annual membership.

New Research: Fluoride vs. Hydroxyapatite
I often discuss concerns about fluoride. A recent study suggests fluoride incorporated into teeth from modern toothpaste is present at very low levels (a few µg mm-2) and may not protect teeth effectively against acid attacks. Much of the evidence supporting fluoride’s protective effects comes from research conducted more than 30 years ago, so this newer analysis offers an updated view of fluoride formulations on the market.
By contrast, a January 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis on hydroxyapatite found good evidence that hydroxyapatite in oral care products can reduce caries, even in the absence of fluoride.

Listen to this episode to hear:
- The personal story of overcoming sugar reliance that began during late-night dental school studying
- Why going cold turkey on sugar is often not the best strategy
- What being “fat-adapted” means and how it affects cravings

Please help spread the word about the oral-systemic connection by leaving a review for the podcast. As always, submit your questions for the podcast here.
