Here’s what’s new this week…
A central database for hydroxyapatite safety studies
I’m pleased to share a new, centralized resource that compiles the scientific studies on hydroxyapatite’s safety and effectiveness. If you’ve ever struggled to find reputable evidence, this list will save time and make it easier to reference high-quality research. Many thanks to Jacqueline Carcaramo, RDH, a functional dental care provider in our community, for collaborating on this project. We’d love to hear how you use the resource.
A functional approach goes viral
This week a post I shared about a functional approach to treating bad breath reached over one million views on TikTok. I’m excited that practical, root-cause strategies are resonating with so many people. If you found this page from that post, welcome—below are clear, evidence-based resources that explain causes and solutions for bad breath:
Bad Breath: Causes and Cures (blog)
What’s the Best Mouthwash for Bad Breath? (blog)
What to Do About Keto Breath from a Low-Carb Diet (blog)
How to Use a Tongue Scraper (video)
Saliva: Functions and Benefits for Oral Health (blog)

In this episode you’ll hear:
- What a DSO (Dental Support Organization) is like from a practitioner’s perspective
- How the type of dental practice you choose can affect patient outcomes
- The story of how I was fired from my very first job
If you enjoy the podcast, please help spread the word about the oral-systemic connection by leaving a review for the show.
Thanks for reading and have a great week.

P.S. My friend Patrick McKeown has developed a mouth tape for children ages 4–16 that I recommend checking out. I also spoke with Patrick about mouth breathing in children in a YouTube interview titled “Mouth Breathing in Children.” Below is a photo of my four-year-old granddaughter demonstrating how to use the tape.
