Remineralizing Coconut Oil Pulling Chews for Stronger Teeth

Have you wanted to try oil pulling but worried it would be too messy? Whether you already practice oil pulling or are curious to start, this easy-to-make recipe is worth trying.

These oil pulling chews simplify the process so you can enjoy the full benefits of oil pulling. Each ingredient was chosen to support the oral microbiome, encourage remineralization, and enhance the tooth biofilm. The result can be fewer cavities, fresher breath, and improved digestive health.

Arginine: Also called L-arginine, this amino acid is the standout ingredient. Recent studies show arginine can help prevent tooth decay while supporting a healthy balance of oral microbes.

Coconut oil: Coconut oil contains lauric acid, an antimicrobial that targets harmful oral bacteria. It has been shown to inhibit Streptococcus mutans, a key contributor to tooth decay and gum disease.

Avocado oil: Like olive oil, avocado oil is rich in oleic acid, a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. It’s also high in antioxidants and vitamin E, which help reduce inflammation, including the chronic inflammation seen in periodontal disease.

Xylitol: A natural, plant-derived sweetener, xylitol helps reduce bacterial adhesion to teeth, supporting oral health.

Baking soda: Baking soda is included for flavor, pH stabilization, and to support the chews’ effectiveness. Contrary to some claims, baking soda is not abrasive to enamel. Neutralizing acids in the mouth helps maintain a healthy pH, encourages beneficial bacteria, promotes remineralization, and protects against decay.

Notes

Tips

– Use these chews after acidic drinks like coffee or wine to help reduce staining.
– For persistent coffee breath, oil pulling for 5–10 minutes can help minimize odors without brushing.
– If you plan to brush after consuming acidic foods or drinks, wait 20–30 minutes because acids temporarily soften enamel, making it more vulnerable to abrasion.

How to Oil Pull

After brushing and flossing, place a chew in your mouth and gently swish, pull, and suck the oil through your teeth. The chew will melt quickly—pull gently for about 1–3 minutes.

– Do not swallow the oil. If swallowing is difficult, try using a smaller portion.
– Do not spit the used oil into the sink or toilet, as it can solidify and clog pipes. Dispose of it in the trash instead.
– Optional: Rinse your mouth with warm water after pulling.
