Once the dental implant has been placed and allowed to heal for approximately three to six months, our doctor will take follow-up digital X-rays to confirm successful bone integration. If the X-rays indicate solid osseointegration, the clinical team will proceed with the final impression for the implant crown.
The final impression appointment typically lasts about one hour. During this visit, impressions of your teeth and the implant abutment are taken and sent to a trusted dental laboratory where a custom implant crown will be fabricated. The lab process usually takes three to five weeks. When the crown is ready, we schedule an appointment to place it — restoring the appearance and function of your missing tooth.
Placing the Implant Crown
During the crown placement visit, the dentist will attach the final restoration to the implant. When clinically appropriate, a screw-retained crown is preferred because it can be removed easily if adjustments or repairs are ever needed. If a cement-retained crown is used, the clinician places a small amount of dental cement inside the crown and seats it onto the abutment, waits for the cement to set, removes any excess, and then checks and adjusts your bite.
Screw-retained crowns are often considered the best option when feasible, due to their retrievability. Cement-retained crowns may be selected based on specific anatomic or aesthetic considerations. In either case, the clinician will ensure a secure fit and proper bite alignment before dismissing you.
Once the crown is firmly in place, you can enjoy a natural-looking and fully functional tooth replacement. Congratulations—your implant restoration is complete and you can smile, speak, and chew with confidence.

Caring for Your New Dental Implant Crown
Following crown placement, the dentist will review aftercare instructions tailored to the type of restoration you received. Some cements can take several hours to reach full strength, so you may be advised to avoid chewing on that side for a day. We typically recommend checking your bite once any local anesthetic has worn off; if your bite feels uneven or uncomfortable, contact our office and we will quickly schedule a short adjustment appointment.
Long-term care for an implant-supported crown is similar to natural teeth: maintain daily brushing and flossing, attend regular dental check-ups, and inform your dentist about any changes in fit, comfort, or function. With proper care, a well-made implant crown can provide reliable function and an attractive appearance for many years.
